Baltimore soprano Amanda Sheriff performs a selection of arias, followed by an author chat with Tiffany L. Warren, who discusses her latest novel, The Unexpected Diva.
The Unexpected Diva is a piece of historical fiction about the life of Black opera singer Elizabeth Taylor Greenfield, who was born enslaved on a Mississippi plantation, adopted by a wealthy Philadelphian and raised in a Quaker community. Discovered while singing on a steamboat, Greenfield was soon playing packed houses, including a performance for Queen Victoria at Buckingham Palace. Tiffany L. Warren discusses the novel following the performance.
